Jarvis Jones

Jarvis Jones

Outside Linebacker – Georgia

6’3″ 241lbs

Projection: Top 5

Strengths

-Very fast off the edge

-Unbelievable motor; never takes plays off

-Good pass rush repertoire

-Knack for stripping the ball

-Clutch in big game situations

-Improved zone coverage defender in 2012

-Elite agility

-Good acceleration

Weaknesses

-While he has improved in coverage, he is not a proven coverage player as he was asked to rush most downs

-Against larger offensive tackles gets washed away against the run

-A bit of a tweener; not quite large enough to play outside linebacker in an NFL 3-4 scheme

-Would be optimal to gain weight without losing explosiveness

-Injury concerns? Left USC after freshman year because team doctors would not clear him to play after injuring his neck

Summary

Jarvis Jones has been an extremely productive player for the Georgia Bulldogs over the past two seasons. He has recorded 28 sacks, and 44.5 tackles for loss during his tenure at Georgia. He brings leadership and an explosive pass rush presence off the edge. His best fit would be to play as a 4-3 strongside linebacker and rush off the edge on third down, similar to Von Miller in Denver. While he is not as fast as Miller, he can still be a guy who collects double digit sacks through the course of his career.

Player Comparison: A poor man’s Von Miller
